Day 4

White Water Rafting on the Arizona River

Our next stop was about halfway into Colorado along the Arizona River. Both my Dad and I are big fans of white water rafting but our experience up until this point had been limited to the Eastern US rivers of West Virginia. (namely the New and the Gauley) This stop was our introduction to the white water of the west as we made our way through a section of the Arizona River called "The Numbers". The half-day trip saw us brave and survive several Class 4 and Class 5 rapids. We even managed to keep everyone inside the boat. :-)

The whitewater that makes this adventure so thrilling can be seen just beyond the bow of the boat. Both my Dad and I were in the back of the boat, just in front of the guide. In the shot my Dad attempts to get a picture of me and the river, but he only succeeds on one count. :-)
In order to avoid getting into too much trouble, all six people must work in unison with the guides commands. It appears that at least one person here wasn't doing their job. ;-) The last shot from our trip down the river does a much better job of getting me in the photo. As you can see in the background there were other boats with us on our half day journey through "the numbers."
