Gaming Links Galore When I am not playing computer games, I like reading about them or talking with other people about games. Yet, finding web sites with the quality to make going back to them on a daily basis worthwhile can sometimes be difficult. I've decided to share my collection of bookmarks to hopefully help you out and make your gaming more satisfying.
Diablo 2 and Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction The Arreat Summit is Blizzard's official page with tons monster, skill, quest, and item information. This site is an absolute encyclopedia of Diablo 2 information and worth going to first when you have questions. The Lurker Lounge has a permanent place as my home page and I go it every day for the guides, news, information, and the great forums with people who discuss all aspects of playing. Whether it's developing new strategies, figuring out the underlying calculations, describing bugs, setting up games, or talking about anything in the off-topic forum, The Lurker Lounge has it all. Sirian's Diablo 2 Page and Sirian's D2X Page are pages from a figure that is justifiably famous for developing characters that tread the paths that are less traveled or, in other words, characters that use skills that are normally overlooked. In doing so, he has discovered skills that are better than first thought and bugs that weren't even known. His character stories are interesting and informative and he manages to instill in each a certain personality. He also posts to the Lurker Lounge on a regular basis which is another reason to go to those forums. The Amazon Basin is a clan that is very friendly to those that aren't a clan member. If you're looking for friendly people to talk to and play games with, this is definitely the place to go. Spirea's Diablo II Resource provides answers to questions such as "How fast will my mana regenerate?" and "How much poison damage will I have with all of my poison charms and weapons?" to even "What are the odds that I'll gamble an elite item at level 60?" This site is great for those that don't want to guess at when or how something will happen. Realms Beyond Diablo showcases what are often referred to as variant. People who decide upon certain restrictions that their character will have such as which items they can and can not wear, which skills they can use and when they can use them or even which skills they can't use. Not only does this add a certain challenge that isn't normally present but it's also a lot of fun. The Sorceress Source highlights the information gathered by someone who knows sorceresses more than any other and the author of the best sorceress guide ever written, Venomous Vixen. Chippydip's Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction Skills uses JavaScript and the actual game files to enable you to plan out where you put your skill points. Want to know how much damage you'll have if you max both Fire Ball and Fire Mastery? Want to know all of the effects of Phoenix Strike that aren't listed in the in-game skill screen? Then this is the site to visit. DiabloII.Net Network is another great site with even more information and current news than even Blizzard's own site. The forums are also great and they even have a marketplace that lets you put up your items for auction or trade with the currency being Diablo 2 gold and not real money. They also have lots of guides, rune information, and host equally interesting sites such as those with stories and information about the monsters that you'll face. Definitely worthy of visiting every day.
Heroes of Might and Magic (HoMM)
Portals of Might and Magic has information about skills, spells, and great walkthroughs. Heroes Community has forums for the discussion of all things HoMM with an interesting cast of regulars. The Astral Wizard's Game Site is also a repository of strategy, player map reviews, and much information about the working of HoMM. It also has the latest news on the upcoming HoMM 4. Lazy Dragon Inn is the place to go to if you are interested in reading stories that are set in the world of HoMM. They are all very interesting and a good read. Macintosh Heroes of Might and Magic is run by our very own Rocco and is a good source of strategies and tips about HoMM3 Celestial Heavens Unleashed also focuses on strategies, news, maps, and tips regarding HoMM3 and 4. Excellent site that's updated often and with detailed and accurate information.
No Category WarCraftIII.Net has the most information about this upcoming game that I have seen, which is not surprising since it a part of the same network that has diabloii.net. If you care about WarCraft 3 then go to this site. GameSpy is a host to dozens of sites that cover nearly every popular game in existence and it has the latest news and interviews. Definitely a site to take a look at and, if you have a gaming site, you can get hosted there which is a really great deal. GameFAQs is a place which has guides and strategies for computer games and console games from the NES to the PlayStation to the GameBoy. If you ever are stuck or lost or need guidance in any game, this is the first place you should look. They also have forums for each game which is a great place to ask specific questions and people actually answer even for games that are years old. All of the guides are submitted by readers so you can send in your own guide if you want to.
Who is Erica? What is this column? Hello everyone! My name is Erica J. Marceau and I am the resident Game Expert of the Mac OS Journal staff. When I'm not playing or thinking about games, I am looking for a job as an Electrical Engineer after graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. My other hobbies include watching animé and reading manga, reading fantasy and science fiction books, role-playing, learning as much about technology as I can, and traveling in the lands of Puddleby in Clan Lord as Jeanne. Every month I'll cover a different topic, from interviews with important people in the gaming industry to ideas for the perfect game, and everything in between. And if there is a topic of the Mac gaming industry that you'd like me to talk about or you want to be interviewed, please email me at: erica@macosjournal.com or use this feedback form.
