OS X is Here (I Think)!
OK... I'm writing this mere days before my copy of Mac OS X is scheduled to show up on my doorstep. Am I going crazy? Nah... not really... I mean, sure, I've been reading dozens of articles on it for the last several weeks: what it's missing, how it performs, is 4k78 really the golden master? But I have things firmly under control, really! I'm not acting like a kid in a candy shop on the night before Christmas or anything... wait, what was I saying again? Oh, well, I digress. So, I have invested time and effort to make Chubbs (that would be my G4) OS X ready... he has a second drive all ready to go, allowing me dual booting glory as I make the transition. I'm ready! And if you never hear from me again, it means that I'm having too much fun, or that Chubbs had a meltdown. So, carry on with the rest of the issue. Where are you, Fed Ex Saturday Delivery Driver?!?!?!
Living in the Past? Maybe we are... cause we seem to be the only ones still buzzing from January's Macworld. Anyway, one of the great products to come out of this winter's Macworld was iDVD (coming soon to OS X) and it's big brother, DVD Studio Pro. Thankfully for us, Randy took some time off from his busy Database Guru schedule to give both Apple DVD authoring products a test drive. What you have is the feature of the month: DVD Authoring Showdown! Fancy, ain't it?
Moving Into a New Office... Not in the real physical sense, but in the virtual sense. We gave Erica a copy of Microsoft Office 2001:mac a little while back and told her to go crazy. When she returned, the suite of Office reviews was at our doorstep (that would be virtually again, not in the physical sense). So, as you probably have already seen from the table of contents or from the issue navigation bar, we gotta lotta Office for you. Behold: Office 2001, Entourage 2001, Word 2001, Excel 2001, and PowerPoint 2001 reviews. Dive into it before I change my mind ;)
The Other Reviews... Sure, Erica managed to smother this issue in MS Office goodness, but we have some other reviews for you too. Xanthippe continues our review coverage of what seems to be a monthly flood of MacSoft releases with Jeopardy! and Rocco witnessed as screen capture programs did battle this month in Snapz Pro 2 vs. Screen Catcher (feel free to insert your own dramatic echo here when you read this)!
Much More in Store We managed to leave Napster alone in this issue and still have a full issue! How do we do it? Lots of medication sneaked into the staff's food. How 'bout some highlights you say? Erica found a moment in her busy Office reviewing schedule to outline what makes a game replayable in this month's Gaming Landscape... Rocco dives head first into PDF creation and viewing at the Warehouse... Rob introduces us all to Style Sheets in Simply Web... Dennis talks nonsense again, I mean gives us the goods on great OS X resources in this month's Surf Watch... José unleashes a storm of goodies for your Mac in Mac Mastery... Kevin attacks discusses how to make your AppleScripts work properly in a multiple user environment in the Foundry... and Craig goes on another future trip and brings back his ideal traveling computer setup in the CoXFiles.
