Jobs is Our Glorious Leader

I came from Salt Lake City to see Jobs because to me he is Apple Computer. You hit it right when you said he did not come with hat'n hand [Feature - August Issue]. He always has something for the believers to think and talk about. He makes you want to continue the fight. He represents fun. He is chocky, not always nice but always future looking. I would love to spend an hour with this man if he would really talk to me. Yes, I have had a Mac since the 128K 9 inch screen days. I purchase wintel machines for a large company and own Macs myself and have taken heat about it for years. I don't care. Apple is the best thing to happen in the PC world. Steve Jobs represents new fun things.

Richard Randolph

I agree. Jobs is an exciting, charismatic guy, and his appearances always seem to produce something that we hadn't expected. I always try to watch his presentations on the live 33.6 QuickTime feed - keynote through the keyhole, you could say - and even in this primitive medium, it's exciting.

Freeway HTML Editing

Erica's review of Freeway [Freeway Review - August Issue] was OK, except that she missed out the most important thing about the app, and the reason I didn't buy it. There's just no good way of checking the html itself. Sure, you can save the page and then view it in a text editor like BBEdit, but that's too awkward.

W. W. Pickersgill

I also was a bit confused by Freeway's apparent lack of straight HTML editing ability, so I passed this on to the reviewer, Erica.

Dennis Field

Dear W. W. Pickersgill;

Freeway can indeed handle editing of html but does so in a way that might be unfamiliar with you. The first way is through the Markup Window that lets you edit code before and after <html>, <head>, </head>, <body>, </body>, and </html>. You can also extend the HTML associated with an item, the page, or a hyperlink by using the Extended Window. You can include banners or other dynamic content by referencing external URL content when the page is viewed. You can insert code at a specific point on the page and import html content into a box. You also edit HTML code when you create a form.

As you can see, Freeway has many ways for you to edit HTML code directly into a web page without having to bother with an external text or HTML editor. The best thing is if you want certain HTML code to be on many pages, you can add them to a Master Page and avoid the excess typing. The reason I didn't mention Freeway's HTML abilities in the review is because I wanted to focus on the fact that you don't need to edit HTML to create great and interactive web sites through the use of Actions.

It's a Ziff it Didn't Ex-Zist

Just read your article [The Surf Report - August Issue] ... very nice. You DID forget ZDNet News though. They used to be...less than Mac-friendly. But a bunch of ex-MacWEEK reporters are heading it up now, and they've broken all sorts of scoops.

Pete Baker

Hard to ignore ZD Net: it's so humongous. ZD doesn't really need extra promotion from me. Whatever you say, I always get irritated at the speed with which ZD always links you to Wintel stuff without ever telling you they're taking you over to the Dark Side. I once did a 30-minute download and only afterwards realized it was PeeCee only. Bah to that, that's my view. So there.
